Ai Weiwei Released

Reports have emerged that world renowned artist Ai Weiwei has been released on bail after pleading guilty to charges of tax evasion.

My post several weeks ago reviewed his current works on show at Somerset House in London and detailed his detention by Chinese authorities in April.

His release has been welcomed by many sources who have been campaigning for his release. The authorities however will remain under fire for holding Weiwei in a secret location without access to a lawyer which goes against its own laws.

It is also important to remember that at this stage the fate of Ai Weiwei’s detained relatives and employees remain unknown.
