James Murdoch has announced that this Sunday’s edition of News of the World will be the last. We have heard that journalists are reacting with anger directed at Rebekah Brooks.
Whilst I welcome this news I remain sceptical. I am convinced that the gap left by the News of the World will be filled by a Sunday edition of sister newspaper The Sun. It is apparent that the News of the World is not the only guilty newspaper here and we shouldn’t be fooled by a gesture such as this.
We are calling for Rebekah Brooks to stand down. She was at the helm of News of the World at the time of the alleged hacking. She is either guilty of allowing this to happen or was so negligent in her role that she didn’t know it was happening.
We need a full police investigation into the hacking claims and any one found guilty of malpractice must be held to account.
We have to keep up the pressure. Boycott The Sun on Sunday, call for Rebekah Brooks to stand down and call for transparency throughout the press on this matter and ensure all guilty parties are punished.
