African Drought – An Urgent Appeal

You will all no doubt have seen the news reports of the escalating emergency situation in the Horn of Africa. The region has been hit by severe drought which is the worst to hit Africa for 60 years.

Thousands of refugee families have travelled from Somalia to Kenya in search of food and water. Many don’t make it. I have read stories of families having to give up on some children to ensure the survival of others.

Today the Disaster Emergency Committee (DEC) is launching an emergency fund-raising appeal to help the people in the area.

We have to act now to stop this becoming an even worse situation. To donate to the appeal you can text the word ‘CRISIS’ to 70000 (this will donate £5), call the hotline 0370 60 60 900, or visit www.dec.org.uk
