Last night I was lucky enough to go to the UK gala premiere of W.E, the new movie directed by Madonna.

The lady herself was in attendance and looked stunning in a black figure hugging dress. The star, best known for her music career introduced her film with a slight nervousness mixed with pride. Madonna also stuck around after the movie to be interviewed by a British Film Institute executive.

The movie follows the well known story of Edward VIII and Wallis Simpson. Uniquely, unlike other biopics this movie tells the story from Wallace’s perspective. A lot of people focus on what Edward gave up for love. This is the story of the struggles and sacrifices that the American divorcee suffered. Intertwined with Wallace’s is story is a tale of Wally, a modern day wife who is struggling to find her way through life and seeks solace in her obsession with Wallis Simpson.

The movie twists between the two stories with ease. It is poignant, heart wrenching and surprisingly very funny in parts. Madonna has done wonders with this movie, creating a piece that is touching, and is a full visual treat.

The movie is set to be released to cinemas in the UK in January. Those sceptical of Madonna’s directal ability should check it out as I am sure you will be very surprised.
