Tomorrow evening I’ll be attending a family party. It’s one of those occasions that you can be sure all of the following will happen…my Dad will partake in some typical Dad dancing, at least one Abba song will be played and there will be some embarrassing photos come
It’s got me thinking to family parties from when I was growing up. Back then I was only drinking Coca-Cola and would sit on the sidelines shyly. I can remember many family weddings and birthdays from the late eighties and nineties. My Dad would most likely be wearing a suit with a white shirt and a striped tie and my Mum would take the longest getting ready and would emerge wearing one of her best dresses. I can still smell the strong perfume that would waft down the stairs that would mean she was almost ready. I am pretty sure that I would have been dressed in a smart pair of trousers and a shirt.
I can remember this song being played at my Uncle Tony’s wedding back in 1990 in Southend-on-Sea. Big 80s hair was still the order of the day and shoulder pads were in abundance amongst the female guests. I was only 9 years old and I remember being very shy. This song is a club classic from 1989 and it always reminds me of Uncle Tony’s wedding. I wonder if the DJ will have it tomorrow?!
