Thank You Mr. President

Last night US President Barack Obama became the first president to come out in support of equal marriage. Speaking to American news network ABC, Obama stated, “It is important for me to go ahead affirm that I think same-sex couples should be able to get married.”

These comments must not be underestimated. This is huge step forward in our fight for equal marriage. We clearly have a long way to go but this statement from the President of the USA is quite possibly the breakthrough needed to send a message to countries throughout the world that intolerance is not the way forward.

This should be celebrated and applauded. I only hope that this is the breakthrough that I hope it is.
